Approximately 3,000 maple trees are bathed in light, and together with the Tahoto Pagoda reflected on the water’s surface, a mysterious and breathtaking “picturesque autumn night” unfolds before your eyes. Experience the illuminated nighttime view of Eikando Temple.
Recommended spots to take the most SNS-worthy photos of Eikando at night
The most photogenic spot for a nighttime illumination of Eikando Temple is the area around Hojochi Pond. The “upside-down autumn leaves” view, where the illuminated autumn leaves and the pagoda are reflected on the surface of the pond, is a popular and fantastical sight that can only be achieved with the temple lit up at night.
In particular, when looking north from the south side of the pond, the pagoda, illuminated by the autumn leaves, stands out against the night sky over Higashiyama, and combined with the mirror reflection on the water’s surface, it creates an almost otherworldly photo.
Other popular spots for taking photos on social media include the tunnel of autumn leaves that forms on the stone steps leading to the Amida Hall, and the photo of the building and autumn leaves in front of the Karamon Gate.
