Beautiful Buddhist statues that remain in the Chosei and Isumi regions of Chiba from the late Heian period to the Kamakura period, such as the Standing Statue of Acala at Chofukuji Temple, the Seated Statue of Amida Buddha at Myokakuji Temple, the Seated Statue of Seitaka Doji at Gyogenji Temple, and the Standing Statue of Kokuzo Bosatsu at Hannyaji Temple, will be on display at the Izumi City Local History Museum from October 1 to November 30, 2025.
Additionally, a special lecture titled “The Kazusa Clan and the Buddhist Statues of Nanso Tendai” will be held at the Isumi Cultural Center from 1:30 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 26th. The lecturers will be Professor Emeritus Noguchi Minoru of Kyoto Women’s University, Chief Priest of Hojuji Temple Tokuyoshi Hamana, and Chief Priest of Kogyoji Temple Toshiaki Kataoka.
